3 Days / 2 Nights
Depart your Windhoek hotel at 8:00 a.m., returning around 1:00 p.m. on day 3. Travel time ~4.5 hours on ~340 km of tar and gravel roads. We drive a particularly scenic route over the Spreetshoogte Pass to the highest dunes in the world, in the Sesriem area of the Namib — at around 50 million years old, the oldest desert on earth. A sundowner trip can be booked in the afternoon.
At sunrise we drive into Sesriem Park. The dunes at Sossus- and Deadvlei form a dynamic, ever-changing system, shifting from golden yellow and ochre to orange and intense brick red depending on the light — one of the most popular photo opportunities in the world. Depending on your fitness you can climb a dune such as the famous “Big Daddy”, from which you can see Deadvlei and its centuries-old dead acacia trees. We also visit Sesriem Canyon for a short hike. An optional balloon ride with champagne breakfast makes a spectacular finale.
