Sossusvlei
3 days/2 nights
Depart from your hotel in Windhoek at 8:00 a.m., return around 1:00 p.m. on day 3.
Travel time approximately 4.5 hours on approximately 340 km of tar and gravel roads.
We drive a particularly scenic route over the Spreetshoogte Pass to the highest dunes in the world, which are located in the Sesriem National Park in the Namib Desert. At around 50 million years old, the Namib is the oldest desert in the world!
A sundowner trip can be booked in the afternoon.
With the sunrise the next morning we drive to Sesriem Park.
The dunes at Sossus and Deadvlei form a dynamic, constantly changing system. With a play of colors ranging from golden yellow and ocher to orange, from chestnut to intense brick red, paler or stronger depending on the time of day, these dunes form one of the most popular photo opportunities in the world at first and last daylight.
Depending on your fitness, you can climb a dune of your choice. One of the highest dunes, called “Big Daddy,” is particularly attractive and not particularly easy, from which you can easily see Deadvlei. The famous dead acacia trees have stood here for hundreds of years, after the occasional flow of water into this pan was interrupted by blown dune sand. A fantastic photo opportunity!
After our dune excursion, we also visit the Sesriem Canyon, which invites you to take a short hike before returning to the base.
If you want to treat yourself to a very special highlight, you can marvel at the sea of dunes from the air the next morning on a spectacular balloon ride followed by a champagne breakfast in the desert!
